Miguel Altieri, UC Berkeley, describes the benefits of agroecological practices and the challenges in upscaling the approach worldwide.

He shows us that the true humanitarian approach to feeding the developing world is to stop exploitation of natural and human resources by industrialized nations and to empower local communities putting people first.

Far from a useless pursuit, agroecology simply delivers farming science at an appropriate scale without delusions of instant power and wealth. And when left to mature, agroecology programs can be rewarding to all involved.
